Moyie Springs

A Beautiful location for recreation with small town living.

Moyie Springs with a population of 718 located near the confluence of the Moyie and Kootenai rivers.

Moyie, a rural hamlet in Boundary County, the most northern county of Idaho, is just minutes from the Montana border and about an hour from the Canadian border. It was incorporated in the 1950s as the county’s second city, which it owed in part to the mill and the logging industry. The mill, which perches on a cliff above the Moyie River, is to this day the largest business in town.

On the far east end of Boundary County, situated above the confluence of the Kootenai and the Moyie rivers, the Idaho Forest Group Moyie Springs Mill is nestled among the trees of the vast forest. The Mill has been part of Idaho’s history for the last 6 decades but unfortunately suffered a rapid earthflow on two separate occasions in 2018. STRATA was called in to assess the existing rapid earthflow on the slope along the southern boundary and provide monitoring and slope remediation. The failures that occurred destroyed a section of a service road located around the perimeter of the Mill. The Idaho Forest Group Moyie Springs project consisted of a geotechnical site investigation; the installation of vibrating wire piezometers (VWP) and a slope inclinometer for monitoring; analysis of local slope stability and recommendations for slope improvements.

This rural small town has long been a popular destination for the avid hunter and fisherman. As you drive along the Kootenai River you will see fishing boats, kayakers and visitors site seeing. The pristine mountains, abundant wildlife and towing pines will take your breath away. The color of the river is a lush turquoise with areas of white caps.  Moyie is takes you back to the days when it was an untouched paradise.

The small community of residents are friendly, and the mom-and-pop businesses offer an excellent break from the Hussle and Bussle of the big city. The area extends an invite to adventure of many recreational and peaceful get away.
