Ponderay

Ponderay is a suburb of Sandpoint, Idaho and adjacent to Kootenai Idaho.

Pondaray adjoins Sandpoint Idaho and is known by some as "The Little City That Can". While small in size, Ponderay is growing with commerce. Stores such as Wall Mart, JC Pennys, car dealerships, motels and more make this small town seem large. Ponderay (/ˌpɒndəˈreɪ/ POND-ə-RAY) is a city in Bonner County, Idaho. The population was 1,137 at the 2010 census, up from 638 in 2000.[5] Ponderay's city motto is "Little City with the Big Future". Its name is an English phonetic spelling of the French words “Pend Oreille”, the name of the lake the city sits upon.

Ponderay is not just a business park but also has some of the most beautiful homes you could ask for. Ponderay is the last city as you head North to Bonners Ferry and Canada. Ponderay is home to commercial businesses such as Walmart, North 40 Outfitters, several car dealerships, the Bonner Mall and lots of food establishments. The beauty of the surrounding Selkirk and Cabinet Mountains and Lake Pend Oreille has kept Ponderay a favorite for water sports, hunting, hiking, horseback riding, fishing and skiing.

The City of Ponderay is the proud gateway to Schweitzer Mountain, a year-round destination resort that boasts 2,900 acres of skiable terrain, 92 trails, open-bowl skiing, three high-speed chairlifts (including Stella, Idaho’s only six-person high-speed lift), plus cross-country skiing trails, a tubing park and snowmobiling access. In the summer, Schweitzer becomes an outdoor-lover’s paradise with more than 40 kilometers of hiking and biking trails to enjoy. Take a ride on the Great Escape Quad chairlift for sweeping views of Lake Pend Oreille and beyond. And don’t forget to check out an array of summer festivals featuring live music and fun activities. In town, visitors will enjoy the 9-hole Elks Golf Course on Highway 200 in Ponderay, a par-35 course featuring 2,897 yards of golf from the longest tees. Shoppers, don’t miss a stop at the Bonner Mall, located at 300 Bonner Mall Way, where a variety of local and national retailers are housed in a comfortable, climate-controlled setting. And catch the latest Hollywood flick at the six-screen Sandpoint Cinemas, located at the east end of the mall.
