Priest River

The River City

A city in Bonner County, Idaho. The population was 1,696 at the 2020 census,[4] and 1,751 at the 2010 census.[5] Located in the Idaho Panhandle region of the state, the city is at the mouth of the Priest River on the Pend Oreille River.

Priest River sits at an elevation of 2,100 ft, and enjoys a four-season climate. An annual rainfall of 23 inches and annual snowfall of 72 inches Summer temperatures rarely exceed 90 degrees and there are plenty of rivers and lakes offer fishing, swimming, boating, and water skiing.

The quiet community of Priest River is centered around the joining of two pristine rivers, Pend Oreille River and Priest River. Situated 7 miles east of Washington and 23 miles West of Sandpoint, it's on the Western end of Bonner County. Priest River has a population of approximately 1,700 residents, with an economy driven by tourism and timber. 

The area around Priest River has been inhabited by various Native American tribes for centuries. The Kalispel and Kootenai tribes were the first known inhabitants of the region, relying on the nearby rivers and forests for sustenance. European settlers arrived in the late 19th century, drawn to the area's timber resources and fertile land

Historically, Priest River's economy has depended on natural resource industries such as logging and farming. The abundant forests and fertile land have provided employment opportunities for residents over the years. Today, the city's economy has diversified, with a focus on tourism, small businesses, and light industry.

One of the main attractions in Priest River is the stunning natural scenery. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy a wide range of activities such as hiking, fishing, boating, and wildlife viewing.
