Sandpoint

Know as the walking town

Sandpoint

Sandpoint Idaho With a population of 7365 is a fantastic eclectic city in the heart of the prettiest scenery imaginable. If you are travelling North from Coeur d' Alene Hwy 95 your first views are from the long bridge. This 1 mile long bridge is the dividing line for Lake Pend Oreille and the Pend Oreille River. Lake Pend Oreille (Pronounced Ponderay) is the 5th largest and 2nd deepest lake in the lower 48 states. This 43 mile long Lake is surrounded by the Selkirk and Cabinet mountains and is even home to a submarine base in Bayview. Views of water, trees, mountains and wildlife never fail to take your breath away. Entering into down town Sandpoint you will find artistic store fronts, waterfront eateries, clothing stores like Cold water creek, and galleries. Sandpoint is on the map for one of the best Ski Resorts in the USA.  Schweitzer Ski Resort offers numerous extreme to bunny ski trails, it is know for year round recreation. Sandpoint's major economic contributors include forest products, light manufacturing, tourism, recreation and government services. As the largest service center in the two northern Idaho counties (Bonner and Boundary), as well as northwestern Montana, it has an active retail sector.

Sandpoint, Idaho, has a history rooted in the ancestral lands of the Kalispell Tribe, with early settlements spurred by fur traders and later by the arrival of railroads. The town grew as a regional commercial center, fueled by logging and timber industries, before evolving into a popular tourist destination known for its lake and mountains.

Community organizations stage a number of regionally known annual events, including Sandpoint Winter Carnival in February; the Lost in the 50s vintage car show in May; and the Festival at Sandpoint summer music festival in August. Sandpoint's historic vaudeville-era Panida Theater hosts frequent performing art events and an ongoing independent film series. The Music Conservatory of Sandpoint provides classical music classes and inaugurated its "Little Carnegie" concert hall in 2022.  A robust visual arts community supported by the Pend Oreille Arts Council also contributes to Sandpoint's reputation as a center for arts and culture in northern Idaho and the Inland Northwest.

Be sure to drop by city beach. There are boat and jet ski rentals, cruise ships, great sandy beaches and if you are here around 4th of July some fantastic fireworks over the water. In the summer be sure to bring a blanket and cooler for the concerts in the park, or visit the areas Artists on the Artwork tour. Find some great veggies and artwork at the Farmers market or take in a show at the Panida theater. Step back in time for the Lost in the 50's classic car show or play a round of golf at one of our many courses.

Lights over Sandpoint are a sight to see, what lights you ask, well they are known as the northern lights or Aurora Borealis a very beautiful night dancing rainbow, these are usual seen in during winter.
